Walking to the Beloved ©2020 June 09, Erica H. Adams, Watercolor and Ink on Paper: 9 x 20 inches
To unite with the Beloved or lover is a metaphor for spiritual longing in the poetry of Rumi, the 13th century Persian poet and Sufi mystic. A longing for the Beloved, grew out of grief after Rumi’s tragic loss of his spiritual mentor.
Watercolor laid over a visible structure -an ink drawing made to another music –responded to the soaring energy of contemporary Turkish Sufi Jazz. Sufism is a mystic branch of Islam akin to Daoist or Franciscan paths.
Made in response to Minneapolis riots.
